The proposed research plan for this study will assess the impact on teaching children between the age group of 4 -11 in a non-classroom environment mathematical concepts. Quantitative research would be used as it aims to get a better understanding of the social environment through data collection. We would observe the learners' performance over a period to see the impact the platform has on their cognitive abilities.
The research questions:
-
Can a situated-learning environment of cooking impact the way a child learns mathematics?
-
How does self-efficacy affect a child’s motivation in the classroom?
-
What impact does the classroom environment have on student learning?
-
Will a child feel more prepared for their mathematics class if they are engaged in the concepts prior to the class?
Method: The study would have four control groups of 15 students each and 4 where the intervention of the cook to learn mathematics platform would be used. The control and intervention groups would be separated by the ages 4-5, 6-7, 8-9 and 10-11 so that we can see the impact and if it varies by age.
The intervention group would have to use the platform at least three times per week for a school term. All the groups would be assessed at the beginning of the school term and then reassessed at the end of the school term. Variances between groups will be analyzed and assessed for statistical differences.
