Q Methodology

EDIT 8390e  - Spring 2023 (ongoing)

Throughout the course I have been able to gain a greater understanding of Q Methodology.  The hands-on approach to the assignments aided in developing the skills of conducting and analyzing a Q methodology study. The below samples are some of the assignments that I have completed this semester. For the multi-participant practice Q-Sort I chose a topic that has been of interest to me due to my background in academia. I believe it's important for organizations to create a workplace environment that promotes diversity, equity and inclusion for all. However, the systemic and cultural barriers that exist in higher education and society pushes some women to not seek positions of leadership.

I am considering using Q methodology as my research method for my dissertation. However, as I move through the program and finalize my research topic, I will make a decision with the guidance of my committee.

Human Performance Technology and Analysis

EDIT 7150e - Spring 2023 (ongoing)

One of my long-term career goals is to work as an academic consultant. I’ve learnt that HPT is a critical component of any form of consultancy, especially if the goal is to enhance both the individual and organizational performance.

For my real-world project I’m conducting a needs analysis for an organization that provides writing services.  Being able to perform an analysis on the root cause of some of their problems and provide an intervention design has been challenging but also an enriching experience.

Even though the project is still ongoing the knowledge gained has been invaluable.

Cook to Learn Mathematics

EDIT 6190 - Fall 2021

The idea for cook to learn mathematics came from seeing my nephew struggle with understanding the concepts and formulas of mathematics. The core of the concept is to get kids to talk mathematics by incorporating it into their everyday lives. As such, something as simple as preparing a sandwich can be made into a fun learning opportunity to teach a child about shapes or ratios.

Doing this project allowed me the opportunity to research the theory of situated learning developed by Jean Lave and other scholars in the field. If given the opportunity to re-do this project I would make a greater effort to have it tested by my other classmates that have children. Getting their feedback and input would allow me the opportunity to further define and develop the learning artifact.

Be the Expert

EDIT 8100e - Fall 2021

The Be The Expert project was designed for us as students to identify a foundational topic or area in LDT that interests us. We were tasked with reading six (6) articles about our topic of interest and to develop a summary and video presentation of it.

My topic of interest was situated learning and I was able to integrate it into my  EDIT 6190 design project. This theory was built upon Lev Vygotsky’s ideology of social constructivism and as a future scholar I was able to draw inspiration from his theory.

If I had the opportunity to redo this project I would improve the video presentation to explain the theory of situated learning in more depth.  I would have used another example apart from my EDIT 6190 learning artifact.

ADDIE - Team Project

EDIT 6170e - Spring 2022

The team project was designed to develop a complete learning proposal with the aim of simulating real instructional design. The process followed the ADDIE  steps with us mimicking the duties and functions of an instructional designer. We worked Kalianne L. Neumann, Ph.D.,

Client Learning & Development Manager at Ware2Go. We were able to plan and present an intervention for a performance disparity caused by a lack of knowledge and skills at the company.

If I had the opportunity to redo this project and the scope allowed it I would definitely recommend a face-to-face meeting with the client. I would also suggest having a discussion with the employees to get their feedback in terms of the disparity. With regards to the group dynamics I would be more vocal with about areas of the project that the content needed to be developed further.
